NOVEL BOOK REVIEW : THE AMATEUR CRACKSMAN

“I'd tasted blood, and it was all over with me. Why should I work when I could steal? Why settle down to some humdrum uncongenial billet, when excitement, romance, danger and a decent living were all going begging together?” - A. J. Raffles, The Ides of March.

The Amateur Cracksman is the first collection of stories about A. J. Raffles, gentleman, cricketer, and thief. After stopping his old school friend, Bunny Manders, from a desperate attempt at suicide, Raffles introduces the unsuspecting Bunny to a new way of earning a living, burglary. Though frequently horrified by Raffles's actions, the conscience-stricken Bunny stands by him through all their adventures, firm to his promise, “When you want me, I'm your man!” (Summary by Kristin Hughes)

That's a little piece of the story, quite interesting isn't it? and here's m review about this novel book.

Absolutely this is not my own novel book, but it is my brother's book. Almost everyday he read this book after he finishing his study in his room. Then, because i'm a curious boy i ask my brother what kind of book that he read. He told me that his book is really amazing novel book, different with the other novel. So, i lend it from my brother and start to read the little synopsis at the back of the book.
At the beginning i didn't really understand what does this novel tell about. So i started to read it. After several day reading and understanding this story i realize that this story is really amazing and exciting.

The story that consists of a series of short stories tells of the adventures A.J. Raffles with his friend and co-worker in the world as a 'gentleman thief' enough to be interesting, promising exciting and thrilling adventure story. Opened with the 'Ides of March' which describes the first encounter with the world of black Bunny who has cultivated Raffles secretly. Following 'A Costum Piece' (Performing Costume) where Raffles intends to steal the diamonds owned by Reuben Rosenthall that not only keep his property day and night, but also very cruel to slay his enemies. Later in the story of 'Gentleman and Players' (Players Amateur and Professional Players) herded their first encounter with the figure of Inspector Mackenzie of Scotland Yard - detective persistent and tenacious in following the footsteps of his quarry.

'Le Premier Pas "(Step One) is a past memories told by Raffles to Bunny when he underwent his first adventure as a thief in Melbourne, Australia, which almost took his life. The story of 'Wilful Murder' (The Accidental) Raffles that have to deal with a cunning man who act as a buyer (artisan-fed) which then intends to blackmail by threatening the good name of Raffles in social circles. In 'Nine Points of the Law' which is quite inviting tingling due to a misunderstanding Bunny and his own efforts to help Raffles, it turns destructive theft plan that has been prepared neatly and carefully.

'The Return Match' (Match Replies) brings Raffles and Bunny to the figure they encounter in the adventure 'Gentleman & Players' (Players Amateur and Professional Players) - where they have to rack their brain to save another thief named Crawshay pursued by Inspector Mackenzie. Closed with 'The Gift of the Emperor' (Gift of the Emperor) when Raffles ambitiously about to steal the pearl offering Fijian society to Queen Victoria on a cruise ship Northdeutscher Lloyd departing from Waterloo to Naples and stopped at the islands of Capri are renowned in the area of Italy. With the ending is quite shocking and invite curiosity high level, I shall have to immediately continue in the second book to know the fate of Raffles and Bunny ...

One thing that we can take and learn from this story is being a clever people is a proud and requirement, but we have to use it on the right side. Don't use our intelligence for something bad.

And the last thing is my review about this story. This story was an old story that have been released at 1899 by E. W. Hornung. So some people think that this story isn't a good and exciting story. Because some of people said that this story's language is too hard to understand. But, for myself i love this story because when I read this story i have to find the meaning word by word, this is one reason why i like this story, it is chalenging!. And overall the story is really great, thrilling, exciting, and shocking.
